Can we agree on something?

A healthy marriage produces a healthy family, healthy community and a healthy country.

If you can find a couple that has many differences it is my hubby and I. Our differences are inexplicable – what we like, how we think, just incredibly different. The only things we can agree without discussion is that we love the Lord, each other and our boys. Everything else has two opinions, his and mine, and needs to be discussed so we can come to an agreement. But this is how two become one. If we were the same our relationship would be boring. We complement each other. In our differences, we just try again and never quit.

Can two walk together, unless they are agreed? Amos 3:3 (NKJV)

Many times, we need to sit down and talk, talk, talk… yes talk, and not only talk but also listen respectfully to what the other has to say. I like to talk – don’t all stay at home moms do? But this talking is not only the blah, blah our husbands sometimes hear from us after a stressful day with the children, this one is more intense. This conversation takes time, patience and respect. This is a conversation where we discuss our opinions until we agree or come to a mutual compromise. Sometimes our conversations are short, give me your opinion, this is mine, and we are done – we agree. On other occasions, it takes much longer and might even take a few tries before we can come to a mutual agreement. What matters is that as a married couple we need to agree to move our marriage and family forward.

Praise and worship music is one tool we use to help us get our thoughts together. Hit play when the atmosphere is not so relaxed.

Here is one of my favorites.

Who said marriage was easy? Not easy but possible…

  1. Marriage is so incredibly hard! I sometimes have thoughts of, “how will we make it through this?”
Listening to calming, inspiring Christian music helps me as well. I really like the song “God is On the Move”!

  2. I don’t know what I’d do without God. Marriage can be rough at times but when we both focus on Him for the answers it brings us closer together. I had never heard the Toby Mac song you posted. It really like it! Thank you for sharing!

  3. My husband and I have been married for one month, so we’re quickly learning the importance of discussion and talking our differences out. Your blog is a nice reminder that we can make it through anything with God in the center! Thank you for your words!
